Improve self-Confidence – Laser hair removal can help you feel and look your very best. Laser hair removal uses beams of highly concentrated light to penetrate the hair follicles. The light is absorbed by pigment in the hair follicles and destroys the hair within the follicle. Next to Botox injections, laser hair removal is the most commonly performed cosmetic procedure in the U.S.

How does hair removal work?

A laser produces a beam of highly concentrated light. Different types of laser produce different colors of light. The color of light produced by a particular laser is one of the keys to its effect on hair follicles. The light is emitted by the Palomar IPL system is the most effectively absorbed frequency by your hair follicles. The laser pulses for a fraction of a second, just long enough to vaporize the pigment, disabling numerous follicles at a time, to eliminate or significantly impede the hair growth. The lasers “chilled tip” protects and cools the upper layers of skin before, during, and after each pulse while directing the laser energy to the root.

Can all skin colors be treated?

Yes. The combination of cooling, laser frequency, and pulse durations allows for safe and effective treatment of all skin types and colors.

How long does a treatment take?

Depending on the area, the treatment may take a little as 15 minutes.

Does it hurt?

Most patients describe the treatment as the “snap” of a rubber band against the skin. Numbing agents are available upon request. Please contact your doctor at least 24 hours before your treatment time if you would like to use a numbing agent. Most patients are able to complete their
procedure without any topical or oral pain medication.

Should I stop shaving before being treated?

No, you should actually shave up to and the day of treatment. DO NOT pluck, wax, or bleach the hair. These methods alter the hair follicle and leave no pigment for the light to be attracted to.

What happens if I have been in the sun?

The laser works best if you have not been tanning for at least 14 days. You can be treated with a tan, but much less aggressively. Temporary burning is more likely to occur.

Are there any side effects?

Depending on the aggressiveness of the treatment, and skin type, a small percentage of patients may experience mild blistering or burns. Hyper and hypo pigmentation may also occur. They are usually not permanent and should fade over time. Always read your consent forms carefully prior to treatment.
